Teaching
Here in St Louis, people know me as a member of the St Louis Symphony. But what they don’t know is that my original career goal was to be a teacher! I was pursuing a Doctor of Music in Flute Performance with a minor in Music Education when I won my job here. I love to teach flutists of every age and ability level. I am passionate about teaching because I believe in the power of music to enrich our lives from beginning to end. My goal is to nurture the love and joy of music in every student. Individual lessons not only improve musical skills, but also encourage dedication, achievement of goals, organization, critical thinking, problem solving, independence, dealing with constructive criticism...the benefits really are endless!
In my teaching, I strive to maintain high standards through honest feedback delivered with kindness, lots of energy and a sense of humor. One of my favorite things about working with students is being their advocate, cheerleader and honest sounding board. This goes for all things flute and whatever else life is throwing their way that requires a little encouragement or support. I would love to meet you and help you reach your individual goals on the flute! My students vary greatly in age and experience: middle- and high-school students who want to audition for All State and Youth Orchestra, adults who are trying to get back into playing, aspiring orchestral flutists who have that big audition coming up, music educators who still want to improve on their instrument….they all inspire me, and I love finding ways to help them reach their goals and potential! I teach in my home studio in the St. Louis Hills neighborhood. I am also available for online lessons for out of town students or if other circumstances require distance learning. Get in touch and we can get to work! |
